Matt Bender, a 40-year-old surfer, was bitten on the arm by a shark in the waters off New Smyrna Beach. He used his surfboard like a boogie board to return to shore and flagged down a girl and her father for help. He received care before being rushed to the hospital and said he believed the shark was a bull shark.
